Movie#29 Swa Le (Malayalam- India)

A drama portraying the life of a journalist of a small newspaper. The film stars Dileep and Jyotika.
The movie has tried to bring out the unethical attitudes currently prevailing in the information and media industry. Gone are the days when newspaper reporting was meant as a social cause. Now everyone is behind 'sensational' news as it drives up the viewers which in turn drives up the profit. The main casualty of the trend is ethics, as corporates take control of media. Journalists try to make up stories and visuals due to pressure from editors who are in turn controlled by directors who are controlled by the board and share holders. The power of the media is such that they could break or make anyone anytime.
Here a simple reporter is pushed to the limit at the expense of his loved ones. He feels frustrated by the pressure at work and his inability of not being there for his pregnant wife. When he reaches breaking point, he even thinks of the most unethical practice of all, but he last shred of goodness in him hold him back. But when his life situation changes for good, he understands and be like the editor who pushed him to the limit.
The movie would have got a higher rating from me but for the out of context comedy scenes the director tried to push in. That scenes included made the movie drag along for over 2 hours.
My personal rating will be 2.5 out of 5…
